Carbon capture has not been factored in the calculation.
Operational Emissions / Energy
Environmental performance has been significantly enhanced with the addition of increased insulation, improved air tightness, new windows throughout, and an air source heat pump providing efficient, fossil fuel-free heat and hot-water.
Afterlife
By lowering the floor level, the architect created a large open living space that connects directly with the rear garden. This allows for various activities and internal arrangements to take place over time.
Future material reuse was not the project’s main focus. That said, the architect minimised the use of decorative finishes such as oils and paints — by using natural materials in their organic state, this allows for easier reuse or recycling at end of life.
