Sustainability Report
Embodied carbon
Efficient
The project was realised with a builder accustomed to LEED projects, ensuring careful sourcing and construction practices even without pursuing formal certification.
Embodied carbon strategies
- Le Noroît makes use of materials from local suppliers, reducing transport requirements and supporting regional supply chains.
- The cedar cladding, finished in yakisugi, sequesters carbon and is naturally durable thanks to the charring process.
- Interior finishes in red cedar add further carbon storage.
- The building’s MAC MS 1 steel roof incorporates recycled content — the roof is fully recyclable, lowering the overall impact of key building materials.
Operational Emissions / Energy
Efficient
Operational emissions strategies
- The home surpasses the insulation standards set by the building code, reducing heating and cooling demand over time.
- Expansive picture windows maximise daylight and provide passive solar gain, helping to moderate energy use throughout the seasons.
- Together, the home’s envelope and design strategies enhance its long-term efficiency and comfort.
Service and maintenance emissions
Durability and end-of-life value were priorities in material selection. Yakisugi cladding requires minimal maintenance and extends the life of the wood.
Afterlife
Disassemblable Elements for Circular Economy
The roof is constructed with MAC MS 1 steel, made entirely from recycled content and fully recyclable at end-of-life, strengthening the project’s circularity credentials.
