Sustainability Report
Operational Emissions / Energy
Casa Enmarcada has been rated under Spain’s Energy Performance Certificate (CEE), recording a non-renewable primary energy use of 27.80 kWh/m²·year and CO2 emissions of 5.06 kg CO₂/m²·year. These figures were calculated using CERMA V 5.11, an approved national method for assessing a building’s energy performance.
Afterlife
Adaptive reuse was considered through the clarity of the structural and spatial system.
Casa Enmarcada is organized with a clean, open floorplan that allows for future flexibility. The ground floor works as a transversal space —crossing from the mountain to the valley— which can easily accommodate different programs beyond the current domestic use.
The double-height living area and the open-plan kitchen-living-dining space could evolve into cultural, social, or professional functions, while the precise structural grid and the absence of intermediate supports under the 16-meter canopy give the house a robust framework for transformation.
This flexibility ensures that Casa Enmarcada is not a static object but an architecture capable of adapting its afterlife to new uses and lifestyles.
Casa Enmarcada was conceived with durability and reversibility in mind.
The large wooden canopies that regulate solar exposure are designed as independent elements, which can be dismantled and potentially reused. The porcelain cladding on the lower volume consists of large-format panels, modular and recyclable, while the custom-made carpentry and furniture pieces remain non-structural and can be removed or adapted over time.
In addition, the use of noble materials —natural wood, stone, and high-quality porcelain— ensures long life cycles and facilitates their re-entry into circular economy processes in the future.
