Embodied carbon
The project reduces embodied carbon through through the retention of the original 1968 concrete structure, avoiding the emissions associated with demolition and full reconstruction. New interventions were limited to facade upgrades, services, and fit-out, meaning additional embodied impacts remain secondary to the carbon already locked into the existing building.
Operational Emissions / Energy
A combination of envelope and systems upgrades, including a high-performance ventilated double-glazed facade with integrated shading, LED lighting and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. These are supported by a shift to solar and geothermal systems, which significantly reduce reliance on fossil-based energy.
Afterlife
The round tower was designed with a modular system that allowed dismantling and potential reuse of components.
