Embodied carbon

Efficient

Embodied carbon overview

  • The project involves the retention and revitalisation of a significant portion of the building’s main structure and facades, based on the original farmhouse. The design approach aims to respect the building’s volumes as closely as possible while adapting them to new functional needs.
  • Taking the farm as the project’s starting point, its specific characteristics inform interventions that respond directly to the historic structure. Longevity, reuse, and adaptability guide both design and construction decisions, with the aim of extending the lifespan of the building and its components.
  • A timber structural system is introduced within the envelope, alongside glazed elements and terracotta brick cores. The doors and windows are by Hasler Fenster. Aluminium windows in the gable facades are by CAR Aluminium. Terracotta brick cores are supplied by Tuileries Fribourg & Lausanne SA.
  • No specific data or estimates regarding the embodied carbon of the project are available.

Operational Emissions / Energy

The project complies with Swiss energy standards and was designed using simple materials to minimise its overall environmental footprint.

Afterlife

The new residential volumes are conceived to function efficiently and flexibly within the envelope. Material choices support integration with the retained structure while allowing for durability and future adaptation.
