Embodied carbon
For the calculations of the carbon emissions from the production of the materials we used EC3 calculator. We gathered the total volume of the concrete and the total weight of the steel and ran the numbers through the calculator to get approxmit values for the kg CO2e produced. We then divided that number by the total square meters of the pavillion. There are no materials that capture carbon in the project so that number remained 0.
Operational Emissions / Energy
The pavilion is not tied to the grid and all power is provided by PV panels.
Service and maintenance emissions
Maintenance of the building involves sweeping the deck and structure from time to time.
Afterlife
The structure serves as a public access pavilion for a State Park. Since these are pristine public lands, it is not likely that this structure could be used for other than its current use.
The two major building materials, concrete and steel, are easily recycled.
