Embodied carbon
Studio Bark carried out carbon calculations in-house using their Innovate UK-funded SmallCarbon tool. SmallCarbon calculates Upfront Carbon (module A), Lifecycle embodied carbon (A-C), Operational carbon (B6), and can combine this to arrive at whole life carbon.The reference study period is 60 years. All lifecycle modules are included except for the following which have been excluded for lack of data: A0, A5.4, B1.1, B5, B8. Quantities are based on a comprehensive audit of stage 4 or 5 drawings and digital models, including all fabric, and sensible allowances for MEP, FFE and external works; to arrive at a comprehensive bill of quantities which forms the basis for the calculation.
Afterlife
Future adaptability was key. The study is strategically positioned to be easily convertible into a self-contained kitchenette, allowing the downstairs area to function as an accessible, independent unit. Furthermore, the main stair’s wide, straight, single run design makes it very simple to retrofit a stairlift, ensuring continued access to upper living spaces as mobility needs evolve.
