Embodied carbon

Efficient

The prefabrrcated project uses timber and birch plywood to reduce embodied carbon of the building while enabling the structure to act as a temporary carbon store over its lifecycle.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

Operational emissions are reduced through the compact footprint and insulated envelope, combined with a simple thermal strategy that relies on non-mechanical systems: eco-certified wood-burning stove for heaitng, passive cooling via a ventilated façade, and off-grid water and wastewater systems that eliminate ongoing energy use from centralised infrastructure.

Afterlife

The cabin itself is designed and manufactured in a way that it can be hoisted by a crane as is. The modular design also makes it possibloe that after relocation to another location, expansion is possible for the cabin—making it a strong contender for adaptive re-use. The interior birch plywood sheets can also be taken off easily, granting access to the electrical and HVAC routes without any demolition works.

Almost the entire structure can be taken apart and easily recycle or re-used. The use of Krinner ground screws as the foundation method for the project make is possible to remove these metal screws, leaving also nothing behind on the ex project site.

Wooden timber grid shell sits atop the ground screws, which are strong candidates for structural re-use at an another location.

The interior birch plywood was selected for its durabilty, in case of the cabin being dismantled, the whole of this cladding is a candidate for upcycling.
