Operational Emissions / Energy

Although the project has not been assessed under a formal sustainability certification system, environmental considerations played an important role throughout the design process.

The building is partially embedded into the sloping terrain, allowing the surrounding earth mass to contribute to thermal stability and reduce energy demand for heating and cooling. The carefully composed building envelope, including controlled openings and large glazed surfaces at both ends of the volumes, supports the use of natural daylight while maintaining a strong connection to the landscape.

The functional organization of the facility—combining production, hospitality, and operational spaces within a single, compact structure—enhances overall efficiency and minimizes the need for additional built infrastructure. The clear vertical zoning of industrial, visitor, and service areas enables optimized operation tailored to the specific requirements of cider production.

Material choices and the overall architectural approach emphasize durability, longevity, and low maintenance, contributing to a reduced environmental impact over the building’s lifecycle. While detailed performance calculations are not available, the project reflects a context-sensitive and integrated approach to sustainability, rooted in passive design strategies and long-term thinking.
