Afterlife
The project was conceived from the principles of adaptive reuse and long-term flexibility. Rather than imposing a rigid residential layout onto the existing industrial structures, the design strategy focused on preserving the spatial qualities, structural logic and generous proportions of the former factory buildings.
The existing load-bearing structure and open spans allowed for flexible floorplans that can evolve over time according to changing residential needs or future alternative uses. The integration of vertical voids, generous ceiling heights and large structural bays creates adaptable living spaces capable of accommodating different ways of inhabiting the buildings in the future.
The new residential volume was equally designed with a rational and flexible structural grid, allowing apartments to be reorganized or merged if future programs would require it. By prioritizing durable materials, clear circulation and adaptable spatial configurations, the project aims to extend the lifecycle of the site far beyond its current residential function.
This approach positions the project not only as a restoration of industrial heritage, but also as a framework for future transformation, where the buildings retain the capacity to evolve over time while preserving their architectural identity.
