Embodied carbon
Operational Emissions / Energy
Operational emissions have been reduced passive design, low carbon building services and a restrained material palette. The subterranean massing strategy naturally regulates internal temperatures year round, reducing heating and cooling demand. An air source heat pump serves as the primary heating system in place of fossil fuel alternatives. Natural daylighting has been prioritised throughout, significantly reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Service and maintenance emissions
Larch timber cladding eliminates the need for painted or coated finishes, reducing the frequency of maintenance interventions over the building's lifetime. Fair-faced concrete is used structurally and as a finished surface throughout, removing the need for applied linings, plasterwork or decorative finishes that would otherwise require periodic replacement. Bespoke joinery is fully integrated into the architecture rather than applied afterwards, reducing the likelihood of premature replacement.
