Sustainability Report
Embodied carbon
Efficient
The renovation focused on retaining and reusing as much of the existing structure and building envelope as possible, while primarily adapting and refinishing the interior spaces and upgrading services where appropriate. Most of the existing double-glazed windows were retained and no changes were made to the primary structure. The existing staircase structure was also retained and reclad in timber.
The interior material and product specifications included:
- Viúva Lamego ‘Mateus Grés’ ceramic tiles
- Richimi Koncreto® decorative speciality plaster in a bespoke colour
- WOODlife Douglas engineered flooring
- WOODlife Douglas fir timber linings — applied to walls, ceilings, flush doors, and joinery
- Cortizo COR Vision Plus aluminium sliding doors
Operational Emissions / Energy
Efficient
- No additional energy modelling or post-completion assessment was undertaken because the building envelope, including the wall build-ups and glazing, was primarily retained as existing.
- The house already benefited from a photovoltaic array, battery storage, and air source heat pumps, all of which were retained. Improving the building’s base energy performance was therefore not the primary focus for the clients.
- The clients’ priority was to ensure that the house remained cool during periods of intense summer heat. Solar shading was introduced to the south-facing elevation through the new deck and Weinor Cassita II awnings. Tuuci Ocean Master Cantilever parasols were also specified.
- Integrated Lutron blinds and tracks, together with de Le Cuona curtain fabrics, provide further internal shading.
- Additional insulation was installed in the ceilings of the guest apartment on the upper floors, while comfort-cooling was upgraded and extended throughout the house.
