Embodied carbon
The calculation combines component quantities with the corresponding environmental data and accounts for replacements over a 50-year period. The carbon calculation is performed using VIZCAB; the environmental data are primarily FDES and collective FDES from the INIES database. The assessment covers the life-cycle stages considered, including end-of-life and Module D. The scope excludes the activity areas and the ERP area of Building B; the study covers the new buildings and their office areas.
Operational Emissions / Energy
A bioclimatic design approach, a high-performance thermal envelope and the selection of efficient energy systems were used to limit energy requirements and consumption.
Service and maintenance emissions
- Use of durable, low-maintenance materials
Afterlife
The building allows for a wide range of uses and is flexible in its design through the use of demountable partition walls that allow several units to be interconnected, thereby adapting to the requirements and changing needs of individual tenants.
The site has already been optimised to the greatest extent possible, with the programme providing more than 21,000 m² of GFA on a 22,800 m² site.
- Demountable or modular structure
- Flexibility of floorplates and spaces
- Capacity of the buildings to accomodate changes of function (offices, education)
- Durability and adaptability of the load-bearing structure
- Potential for reuse, recycling or recovery of materials
