Adaptive Reuse and Flexible Design Considerations
Yes, with a focus on how the home can evolve over its life. The Z-plan keeps every space close to a façade, so rooms receive daylight and can take on new uses without major renovation. Zones are separated by design. The rear office is removed from the main circulation, the bedrooms sit at opposite ends of the Z, and the lower level has its own bedrooms and bathrooms. That arrangement could adapt to teenagers, multigenerational living, guests, or a home-based business. The children's spaces were designed to grow with them, with fixtures and finishes that can be swapped as needs change. The project also reused select elements from the family's previous home, such as lights and doors, so reuse was part of the process from the start.
