Asche & Unkelbach GmbH was founded in 2007 by Florian Asche and Klaus Unkelbach. With the founding of april allterior in 2009, a furniture collection has been created that covers both the indoor and outdoor areas.
In their collaboration for april allterior, both founders draw on the experiences of their long-time collaboration and their collective know-how. Product designer Florian Asche was co-founder and, up until 2006, co-owner of the design furniture company e15 GmbH, together with business manager Klaus Unkelbach, who, until 2006 was also co-owner of e15.
Together they are blazing a new creative trail. Based on their tried and tested strategy of combining high-grade materials with minimalist design, april allterior represents a new furniture collection that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior, thereby creating a new sense of living space.
The idea
The furniture at april allterior stands for a minimalist, highly aesthetic design, innovative materials, top-quality workmanship and an environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
Materials play a special role in the process of creating designs. Most outdoor furniture is still made of tropical wood, which we associate visually with a robust style. This style, however, is not suitable for interior living spaces. In order to create a connection between outdoor and indoor life, Florian Asche and Klaus Unkelbach went on the search for a material that would be suitable for every living space – and they found it. For april allterior furniture, plywood made of local beech is used which is weatherproofed on a purely thermal basis, without using any chemicals. The innovative use of this material is the basis for furniture which enchants customers by its simple shapes. Every piece of furniture is unique, since each veneer surface has an individual grain pattern. april allterior presents an innovative furniture collection that is characterised by its durability, as well as by first-class aesthetics – uncompromising both inside and out.
Long-lasting & environmentally sustainable
Up until now, most outdoor furniture has been made primarily of tropical wood, which often entails extensive and illegal forest clearing. All too often, this wood finds its way to Europe illegally without having been systematically certified. For the furniture at april allterior, the search for wood alternatives was an important prerequisite for our resource-conserving manufacturing process. We chose beech plywood, a local wood whose ecological values are higher than those of tropical wood. The wood originates solely in FSC certified forests, a trusted seal that verifies responsible foresting. Our treatment of the wood is also done completely without chemicals, thereby further protecting the environment: the beech wood is made weatherproof by purely thermal means.
