OUR STORY Greenington’s president and founder was manufacturing high quality bamboo products for over twenty years before he entered the business of creating his own line of high quality solid bamboo furniture in 2004. Because of his expertise in working with the planet’s most eco-friendly, rapidly renewable resource, Greenington’s fine bamboo furniture has quickly risen to the top of the industry, known for its enduring beauty, style and quality. MANUFACTURING Greenington is all about choices. Choices regarding the finish options for many of our classic bamboo collections, such as our natural Caramelized finish which resembles a nice warm honey tone or Sable with its deep rich and somewhat exotic hints of reddish brown. And then there’s our Mocha and Black Walnut finishes for that truly contemporary look. We also offer choices for some of our more limited exotic bamboo pieces that include our standard caramelized exotic finish which resembles a rich tropical hardwood. That dark exotic material is blended with our lighter more natural blonde exotic material, giving us our exotic Tiger finish. Both offer a ‘must see to appreciate’ experience. Our exotic bamboo collections are made from finer strands of bamboo fiber produced from the same strips used in our classic collection. These fibers are interwoven together and soaked in a special mixture of adhesive material in a huge 4 story hydraulic press mold, heated and compressed into very dense panels. The compression and heat transforms the honey toned caramelized color into a deeper, richer and much heavier panel resembling exotic hardwood material. This process not only showcases the ‘inner beauty’ of the Moso bamboo, but yields a much stronger material. Both our classic and exotic collections are manufactured using the same 100% solid Moso bamboo. The difference lies in the method of production. Our classic collections are made from solid strips of the bamboo culm. Once properly sized and milled the strips are put into large steamers which ‘cook the sugars’ giving us our caramelized finish color. A few more production stages and the finished strips are laminated into solid bamboo stock and furniture panels of various thicknesses, plys and cross-plys, from which our classic collections are made.
