Hess & Co AG was founded in 1929 by Franz Hess and engaged in Döttingen, Kanton Aargau, over a hundred people. Our company is active in the woodworking industry. Our primary business is the manufacturing veneers made of European round timber and processing these into plywood products. The most important services are the production of the following products: Wood cores for the ski and snowboard industry Molded plywood for furniture and automotive industry as well as manufacturers of sports equipment Slats and bedframe panels for the bedding industry high quality plywood and plywood for tables, furniture, model Wall panels of plywood in larch, fir and Douglas fir Peeled veneers as finished materials for the processing industry Hess generated at the time an annual turnover of approximately CHF 17 million. The high quality Swiss product allows to export share of about 65%, mainly to EU countries. In woodcores for the ski and snowboard industry, the company Hess is an international market leader. In the other market segments, customer-oriented product range is offered. Hess is recognized in the plywood industry for high quality products. Machinery Our production is mainly characterized by high flexibility and versatile processing. Since the mid-90s are five CNC-controlled systems for manufacturing highly complex products in action. Production is now on 25,000 m2 production area. As early as 1998 with respect to environmental protection, designed according to modern woodchip-fired system for generating process heat was put into operation. Future prospects What are our entrepreneurial goals for the future? We will continue our successful strategy of customer orientation with innovative products for ski and snowboard manufacturers as well as solutions for technical applications. The latest developments in the molded plywood segment are special molds for the carriage and automotive industries as well as for the parcel distribution. In the plywood segment, very interesting opportunities are opening up in the lightweight panels (combination of plywood and high plastics) and flame-retardant materials. In short, we are using our expertise and our versatile machine park open up new markets and deliver our specialties in wood to customers throughout the world. We are convinced that wood will play in the future an important role in our lives. Therefore, we work daily on new, innovative application forms which are to meet the needs of our customers even better.
