The studio’s design work is unique for its understatement. It is far too humane to be called minimalist, but it never shouts for attention: They are spaces that allow room for the imagination. The common thread in all the projects that Katie and her design team create is soulfulness. “For me, the most important thing is not one piece of important furniture in isolation, but the overall feeling of a space,” Katie says. “There is usually something gently surprising about the combination of our selections for a space, but they’re never loud. Most of all, I want the spaces that we work on – whether they are large or small – to feel grounded and intimate.”
