I’ve spent significant parts of my life in Japan, the Czech Republic, Turkey and the USA. Having lived in these places gave me an appreciation for various cultures, peoples, and esthetics. Those experiences are crucial to the work I make.
I think my first inklings towards a creative profession sprung when I was living right next door to a Japanese potter who at the time was working in Czech. I spent much of my weekends in his studio, mostly just playing with the clay but also observing and attempting to copy his technique. Although I am not working with clay anymore, I still like to work directly with materials and processes.
