Paul +O Architects is a small architectural practice with two directors, Paulo Marto and Paul Acland, and two support staff / architectural assistants.
As a practice we strive to design and build contemporary, authentic, well considered and rigorous buildings which are sympathetic to their context and fulfil the clients’ brief. We also like to use traditional materials and typologies in a contemporary manner.
We are very concerned with the design of good architecture which is of our age but unfortunately this design approach often brings us into conflict with the planners and we are sometimes forced to take projects to Appeal in an attempt to build uncompromised schemes.
Our expertise is in domestic Architecture, where we give a comprehensive service which includes the architecture, Interiors and landscape, but we have experience in a broad range of projects including commercial, social housing, hospitality and retail. We are always looking to undertake new and challenging commissions.
Since the completion of the Wilderness, a contemporary country house for which Paul+O won planning permission under PPG7 in 2007, Paul+ O Architects have completed the refurbishment and extension of a house in North Kensington, a private swimming pool in Buckinghamshire amongst others. Current projects include a new build house in Hampstead, which is currently at appeal, the renovations and extension to a Grade 1 listed house also in Hampstead and a new country house in Sussex.
Paul+O was a finalist in the Grand Designs Best House 2008, and was shortlisted for the Suffolk Preservation Society Design Award.
