About Pikaplant Founded in 2015, Pikaplant is an Amsterdam-based company creating solutions, which make plant-keeping so easy that anyone can grow healthy indoor plants. Founders Joost Van Uden and Danny Sutjahjo are strong believers in the benefits of having plants as part of our everyday environment. Research has proven that plants reduce stress and have a positive effect on creativity and productivity. This belief led the two product designers to develop a series of products, which mimic nature to water your plants, so you don't have to. Sustainabitlity is a huge part of the ethos of Pikaplant. They are committed to making our environments greener, by encouraging everyone to grow plants regardless of their experience. Where possible components for the various products are sourced locally and always ethically. Pikaplant products include the globally successful Jar, the vertical shelving system One, Tableau an automatic watering tray scheduled for release in 2017 and the Aeris prototype recently successfully debuted at Dutch Design Week 2016. The new prototype is an evolution of Jar made from hand-blown glass, by local Amsterdam based craftsmen. With an increasing fanbase, the Pikaplant Jar is a globally successful product, now stocked at over 200 retailers worldwide. The Jar is an airtight biotype and inside it lives a hand picked plant. The plant recycles the air and water it has, adapting to stay healthy and grow. It waters itself so you never have to. Each of the Jars are individually handmade. Pikaplant One is a shelving system that automatically waters your plants, so you don't need to. Its ebb-and-flow irrigation technology uses zero electricity. It works great as a vertical garden or room divider. The One was named Best of Milan Design Week in 2015. Tableau was funded via a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015. It is an automatic houseplant watering tray that mimics the natural wet-dry cycle of groundwater, for healthier plants. True to nature, its ebb-and-flow irrigation system uses zero electricity. Tableau applies the second generation of the technology used in the One vertical garden to water up to three plants on your table, counter, desk, or window sill. Pikaplant products have been featured in major publications in the Netherlands and globally and has a fan-base around the world. The popularity and interest in their products has been attributed to the intersection of the products between functionality and design. Pikaplant products are designed to fit seamlessly into home or office decor. As a company Pikaplant has been expanding as the popularity of products like Jar has increased. The plan is to continue with this growth and expand the availability of all products on different platforms, especially online. Bringing Tableau onto the market is also an immediate priority, as well as the development of other products to add to the catalogue.
