Rex Kralj

Some four years ago we purchased a contemporary design brand Rex Kralj, which so far includes the work of the most known Slovene designer and architect Niko Kralj. He is regarded as one of the icons of the 50's and 60's and has achieved global reputation when his Rex Lounge was included in the design collection of the famous MoMA in New York. Since we took over, we have managed to become part of permanent collections also in Designmuseum in Copenhagen, Museumsquartier in Vienna, Museum for Industrial Design in Prague and International design Museum Munich (Pinakothek). We consider that one of the most important trends for the next years is the re-interpretation of the 50’s and 60’s design, implemented with modern technologies, new materials and colours. Considering that our heart beats for the modern classics we have our story – Rex Kralj. Let me at the beginning give you some more information on Shell Lounge and Shell Dining chairs. Shell models were designed in 1956 and were produced in 23 different variations. This beautiful chair got completely forgotten until we brought it back to life two years ago. We decided to work in horizontal way and are trying to launch as much nice variations as possible. We have started with the leather or textile seat, which is attached as a separate plywood plate. One special edition is a co-operation with a Lili Radu, a German designer of Leather Products. We are offering the Shell Lounge and Dining version in 9 LR special colours in finest calfskin. We have then added new materials like walnut, bleached and natural oak and new started to offer the chair also in full leather or full textile. Regarding textile we work with German producer Rohi and have chosen the Novum line for our collection.
