SPI Lighting is a leading designer and manufacturer of American made architectural and performance luminaires. In the 1970’s, Alan Ruud founded SPI Lighting. Ruud later sold it to McGraw-Edison, which became part of Cooper Industries. In 1987, Lee A. Doerr, Jr. purchased SPI Lighting from Cooper Industries with the vision of building upon the company’s reputation as a pioneer of high-efficiency indirect lighting. The company grew rapidly in the following years, significantly expanding its manufacturing facilities, office personnel, and product line – most prominently with the acquisition of the architectural lighting company, Advent Lighting, in 1999.
