The collection of artistic consoles is inspired by eighteenth and nineteenth century florentine decorative styles. Skilled craftsmen of the period furnished the palazzo's of Italy's prominent families with artistic bronzes and crystals. In those days, Florence had hundreds of artisan workshops scattered through the mercato vecchio, the city center. Smiths and foundr y-men, brass-workers and master glassblowers worked practically side by side. They were the heirs to tradition which was born in medieval and Renaissance Florence and sur vived intact until the twentieth century, with all its completely manual techniques and methods. And this is precisely the tradition that lives on in our collection of consoles. Each component of each console has a touch of history: a leg from a table in Palazzo Rucellai supports a washbasin; a carved frame from Palazzo Medici Riccardi inspired a mirror. But, above all, each item in the collection is unique: a piece of entirely hand-made and hand-finished solid metal that cannot be replicated.
