A small ensemble of two outbuildings is attached to a single family house. In addition to being used as a studio, a workshop and a fireplace room, it is a place of hospitality and a space for rest and retreat. The brick and steel materials used reference the traditional Solingen backyard workshops. They are consistently disclosed in their construction and become central design elements. In this way, the freely arranged monolithic clinker brickwork becomes the inner and outer visible surface, the window lintels and steel ring beams become an ornament.
