Alegro Alfragide

The proposal involved the transformation of an exhausted standalone hypermarket box with attached retail units into full blown state-of-art shopping mall keeping it as an anchor area of the future Shopping Center.

The building was designed in three different levels in which the first two ones embrace multiple stores leaving to the upper floor the exclusive use of the cinema complex.

Due to the topography conditions of the plot the new parking floors couldn’t be completely underground. As a result, the exterior is marked by a new basement volumetry where all the Shopping Center settles down.

The design of the new commercial area is kept as a simple longitudinal geometry creating a conceptual reference alignment. The Southeast part of the building includes a vertical element made of steel and glass that creates a new visual impact in the site. This effect is highlighted by the use of chromatic glass that ensures the desired lightness. Functionally, this “tower” represents the main entrance also including the vertical connections between the different levels.
