The building, designed entirely in Energy Efficiency Class A, has in each floor a large terrace area that wraps it almost like a skin. The design idea of the Studio Area 17 in Bolzano had to ensure a low aesthetic impact almost to hide the railings safeguarding the security. The proposal was therefore to use panels with frames in steel plate and vertical elements in round bars 12 mm. Considering the particular exposure and especially the assessment of climatic factors and of air pollution, it was decided to use the AISI 316 stainless steel with satin finish. The presence of outer coat also on the front of the balconies has determined a study of particular hidden flanges; the engineering was directly supervised by the technical department of Gonzato Contract. The special care of the finish, especially the micro welding has led to a formal clean aesthetic result.
