Edouard Herriot college

Edouard Herriot college is located in the outskirts of Dijon in a site where the scales are juxtaposed great set and suburban fabric (lines and points). The identity of the public building reads by contrast, college himself as a kind of very thick sheet whose ground floor is dug by patios and floor worked by cusps. These devices guide the building from its urban and landscape context and they let light into the very thick of the plan. The lobby and courtyard, lit by large "columns of light", occupy almost the whole of this thickness and occasionally the entire height of the building. Continuous main circulations front façade, each floor allow to read the longitudinal dimension of the building.

The generous proportion of its spaces (height classrooms is 4m) and its hardware unit are the main features of this building. The facades are coated with an against-brick wall that keeps a tectonic dimension despite the external insulation; inside the reinforced concrete structure and is visible in all the circulation spaces. The walls of the spaces dedicated to education are covered by wooden paneling.

These principles reflect our desire to offer an architectural approach and not technocratic environmental concerns: - The compactness of the plan contributes to reducing energy losses - The tall spaces favors natural lighting and air quality - The use of natural materials and / or raw, such as brick, concrete and wood, limit the environmental impact of construction, and gives the building a resistance truly "sustainable."
