The CTE Innovation Center is a groundbreaking facility designed to prepare high school students for success in high-demand STEM careers through immersive, real-world learning experiences. Located on the 62-acre Roper Mountain Science Center campus, the Center serves 10th through 12th grade students from across the Greenville County School District, offering a range of career and technology programs focused on Biomedical Sciences, Clean Energy Technology, Cybersecurity/Networking, Aerospace Technologies, Automation and Robotics, and Emerging Automotive Research.

Developed in partnership with local industry leaders, the Center bridges the gap between education and the workforce by providing students with opportunities to earn industry certifications, engage in project-based learning, and develop the technical and soft skills needed for college and career readiness. Each program features a dedicated, specialized lab equipped with cutting-edge tools and technology—including South Carolina’s first Emerging Automotive Research Lab with an electric vehicle trainer.

The Center reflects a modern, flexible approach to educational architecture. Collaborative classrooms, adaptable labs, breakout rooms, study spaces, a central café, and outdoor learning areas create a collegiate atmosphere that fosters connection and innovation. The building systems—including mechanical, electrical, and IT infrastructure—are left intentionally exposed, transforming the facility itself into a teaching tool that reinforces hands-on, experiential learning.

Sustainability and adaptability were key drivers in the design process. The facility is built with long-term flexibility in mind, allowing for seamless integration of new programs as industry needs evolve. Large windows and careful site orientation maximize daylight and views, while the material palette complements the natural beauty of the Roper Mountain campus.

The Greenville CTE Innovation Center stands as a model for future-focused education—where architecture, curriculum, and community partnerships converge to create a dynamic, inclusive environment. This innovative facility not only equips students with relevant skills and credentials, but also reflects the district’s commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math.
