The Siemensstadt residential district in Berlin, built
between 1929 and 1931 on a 19 hectare area for
Siemens workers, was declared a “Unesco World Heritage
Site” in 2008. Designed by six architects under the
direction of Walter Gropius, it is one of the most famous
experimental settlements of the twenties and is a prime
example of German rationalism. The recent restoration
of the area involved among other things a careful study
of the balconies and windows, which are cut into the bearing
walls and are one of the distinctive features of this modern
movement. The metal windows have been replaced by
the OS2 65 system in painted galvanised steel which was
considered the ideal choice and which provides, in addition
to comfort, the maintenance of the design and dimensions
of the original profiles. It also guarantees performance
in terms of thermal insulation, noise reduction and
weather resistance.
