private garden in Aravaca(Madrid)

Landscape architecture: Nadine Sapena Negel - Jardinesecretos - www.jardinesecretos.com Location: Residential Area, Aravaca –Madrid (Spain) Collaboration: ERCO light, Greendesign, Peña Plant Nursery, Guido van Steen (Plant Belgica) Year of construction: May 2012 Area: 300m² Construction budget: 210.000€ This project was commissioned for an undeveloped area in a private garden. There were no constraints apart from the space allocated to the garden. Since this was an entirely flat rectangular space bounded by a 3m high wall, our design introduced three different heights; all the spaces would then interconnect through the water flowing towards the center of the garden, then reappearing at either end and cascading down the tiers. The path is illuminated along its entire length with LEDs submerged in the water channel, enhanced by wall washers and recessed lighting. The sandstone quarried in the Spanish province of Soria was worked in situ. Portuguese stone craftsmen fitted together all the Portuguese paving. The trees were selected both to provide autumn coloring, ranging in varied hues from yellows to deep reds, and for resistance to heat and cold. TREES Magnolia x loebneri, Lagerstroemia indica, Magnolia grandiflora, Liriodendron tulipifera, Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer x freemanii, fruitless Morus alba CLIMBING PLANTS The space was divided using wooden lattice covered with Climbing Rosebushes and ground-cover species.
