MUZA is a place people visit not only to see a movie.
Different from contemporary multiplex theaters but also not your typical art-house cinema.MUZA is a particular place. A place for discussion. A pretext to hang out. A place where the magical cinematic vibe leaves the screening room.The theater is situated in the back of a tenement house in downtown Poznań, Poland. It's been here since forever. Since 1908.
The entrance hall holds a coffee house. The walls are decorated with light frames, posters and pure blackness. Artifacts from cult motion pictures. Theatrical lighting hangs from an industrial ceiling. Comfy sofas and barstools invite the visitor to the conversation.On the floor- a teracotta chessboard. The spectators are greeted by a neon sign, a director's chair invites them for a quick photoshoot. They feel like on a movie set.
With the recent overhaul, MUZA gained two new screening rooms located on the second floor. The auditorium is on the first floor.New screening rooms were designed to be cosy and intimate, the two spaces differ in styles and layouts from the main auditorium. Colorful sofas and armchairs create an unique atmosphere, uncommon for what you're used to come upon in movie theaters.
The screening rooms will serve more purposes, they will hold workshops and presentations.They were acoustically separated from each other and from other parts of the tenement building.The complex finally gained modern, mechanical ventilation and air conditioning, as well as office facilities.A second coffee place was added on the second floor, along with an outdoor terrace on the roof adapted to hold outdoor viewings in the summer.
Added exterior elevator made the place accessible for the disabled.All in all, MUZA will now be able to play 4 independent cinema screenings at the same time.
