So what moved me? Everything. The things themselves, the people, the air, noises, sounds, colors, material presences, textures, forms too—forms I can appreciate.

With the Bohai Sea on its south and the Shanhai Pass on its east, Qinhuangdao, a modern city with a rich history, has always possessed a certain mysterious charm. First Emperor of Qin traveled here to seek the immortal. Emperor Wu of Wei composed a poem when he visited Jieshi Mountain. Chairman Mao once chanted, “A rainstorm sweeps down on this northern land”.

The Qinhuangdao Marriott Hotel opened in 2022. YANG elaborately introduces vibrant and fascinating marine creatures as well as tangible and elegant nautical elements into the space. Through the use of materials, colors, lighting, and art installations, YANG presents the guests with an attractive deep sea in the harmonious and elegant interior space, inviting them to swim slowly into the sea.

A giant whale can be seen hanging above and singing with its head held high as soon as people walk into the lobby. The green glass brick wall, inspired by the time-honored Shanhai Pass, guards by the side. The artistic lights in the shape of sailboats float silently on the sea-like clouds. The motion-activated wall behind the front desk will change like the ebbing and flowing waves in response to guests’ movements.

Richly intertwined with all kinds of marine elements, the spacious lobby of nearly 550 square meters is equipped with dark-brown marble flooring, off-white partitions, and plain ceilings.

The curved bookcases are like recessed coastlines, serving as partitions to create a private space for the lobby bar. Furniture with different natural textures, such as the reef-shaped low stools, the wood-grain chairs, and the fabric floor lamps, adds both comfort and tranquility to the space.

With the help of the design, a cruise feast is created from different dimensions. The vivid fish embossment greets the guests in the all-day dining restaurant. The deck-like flooring is jointed in dark and light tones. The wave-like ceramic walls are in blue, green, and white colors. The linen screens are densely woven in sailor knots. The kitchen counter decorations are inspired by the cargo frames.

The dazzling glass ball, with a diameter of over 2 meters, is like a bubble rising from the bottom of the sea. The floor-to-ceiling glass introduces more light to the space and allows the guests to enjoy the 2.8-kilometer golden coastline while dining in the restaurant.

Entering the MANO bar, the light from the soft tassel pendant lamp is like starlight dancing on the water plants at the bottom of the sea. The dark walls have a metallic texture. The flooring is jointed with old ship wood. Colorful yet geometrically-shaped stools and chairs are scattered in the bar. All of these elements are used to enhance the romantic atmosphere.

The specially shaped bar counter is over 20 meters long and extends from the indoors to the outdoors, inviting guests to revel in the lively party outside. The smooth curves of the pool and the rock facade couple softness with hardness. Guests can enjoy the fabulous sunset over the ocean and mountains here.

Even the ballroom for formal events has a hint of holiday vibe. The 3D diamond shape of the white ceiling looks like rolling waves. The blue and purple carpet with a coastline pattern and the irregular wall arranged like sailing boats are telling a never-ending story of the feast.

After all the hustle and bustle of the day, you may need a secluded place to be closer to your true self. The peaceful M CLUB on the top floor and the atrium filled with lights are good places to enjoy the wonderful night and relax yourself.

The well-designed guest room is also a great choice. With a tilt of 45°, all the rooms can offer the fabulous ocean view. The walk-in closet and the spa-like bathroom make the room more spacious.
