Nestled in Pudong, Shanghai, Private Residence 1601 is a thoughtfully crafted home where time, materiality, and atmosphere converge. Designed by RooMoo, the residence embodies the idea that time is not just a measure but a sculptor—shaping space, textures, and emotions. Every element within the home evolves organically, carrying traces of transformation that infuse the space with depth and character.

Rather than adhering to symmetry, the design embraces an asymmetrical and irregular composition, achieving a delicate balance between simplicity and sophistication. It is a space that speaks in quiet tones—humble, understated, and deeply personal.

A Space Defined by Energy and Connection
At the heart of the design is the concept of energy in motion. The residence’s structural pillars serve as metaphors for family members, symbolizing how air, light, and energy circulate between them—connecting, supporting, and shaping the rhythms of daily life. The interplay of curves and straight lines creates a dynamic yet intimate atmosphere, reflecting the way family members accompany and influence one another over time.

To further enhance this sense of flow, arched ceilings define key areas of the residence. A soft, sweeping arch above the living room gives the space an inviting, enveloping presence, while an arched ceiling in the corridor guides movement seamlessly through the home. Most wall corners have been carefully rounded instead of forming sharp 90-degree angles—an intentional choice that smooths circulation, creating a sense of effortless transition between spaces.

A Subtle and Refined Material Palette
The material and color palette is guided by a sense of warmth and natural harmony. Earthy beige, soft gray, metallic copper, and warm wood tones form the foundation, while gentle accents of light green in spaces like the study and children’s room introduce a fresh, vibrant contrast. These carefully chosen hues add depth and distinction to each functional area while maintaining an overarching sense of cohesion.

Beyond the conventional use of wood, stone, and metal, RooMoo incorporates mosaic and gradient glass, introducing an artistic and contemporary dimension to the space. These materials interact with light in unexpected ways, reinforcing the concept of fluidity and transformation—where the passage of time is subtly etched into the residence.

A Home that Grows with Time
More than just a living space, Private Residence 1601 is a canvas for life itself—where the interplay of material, energy, and memory unfolds naturally. Through its careful composition and quiet elegance, RooMoo has crafted a home that not only shelters but also resonates with the emotions and experiences of its inhabitants. It is a space that evolves with time, revealing its beauty gradually—just as life does.
