After judging the limited competition the panel selected to combine the designsproposals of three participating architects. As a result a consortium was formed lead by Rudy Uytenhaak, together with the offices of Herman Hertzberger and Meyer and Van Schooten. The new science building is designed as one buidling but internally divided into four sections. Parts C and D designed by Uytenhaak, part A by Hertzberger and part B by Meyer en Van Schooten. Public functions are situated around the entrance. The upper floors accommodate more private functions such as Laboratories and offices. The science centre will combine a variety of faculties currently located on many locations around Amsterdam. Part B, designed by Meyer and Van Schooten, contains all necessary facility and supply rooms. Library and reading rooms are situated at the first floor. This public area is designed to be a ‘landschape’ and provides different kinds of reading and study rooms. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor mainly contain laboratories and offices.
