Glass is proving to be the material of choice also in the creative design of spaces where scenographic impact is important, such as the entrance halls of large corporations, hotels and shopping centres, show-rooms, discotheques and other entertainment facilities. In designing stairways and steps of whatever size, only glass ensures really spectacular results. Glass too, however, like any other material used for flooring, must ensure sufficient friction to avoid slipping, especially in places that have to be accessible to everyone.
This is the case at the Vodafone store in piazza San Babila in Milan, designed by Dante O. Benini, where a glass staircase was installed against the background of a scenographic wall. The treads are made of Madras® Pixel Flooring, an anti-slip glass produced by the Italian Vitrealspecchi. It is particularly suitable for flooring and staircases of high visual impact that need to combine the aesthetic qualities unique to glass with exclusive performance characteristics certified to the main international standards.
The Madras® Flooring line offers a generous choice of transparent and semi-transparent textures providing strong grip in both dry and wet conditions. The Madras® Flooring range now also includes products like Grid XP Flooring, certified to DIN 51130 (R13 classification) and DIN 51097 (C classification).
Madras® Flooring can be tempered and laminated. When laminated with transparent float glass or coloured PVB and suitably lit, it produces superb flooring, especially for halls and entertainment facilities, etc. Otherwise, when laminated with an opaque film or mirror glass, it forms highly refined, high-tech style “tiles”, also for floating floors. Because of its performance characteristics and special aesthetic qualities, Madras® Flooring is used in places of international prestige.
