The Volta Schulhaus is located on the outskirts of Basel's industrial zone, on the site of the district heating power station. It accommodates 12 primary classes and contains a double-hall gymnasium within the underground floors.

The constricted situation on the south side of the existing coal storage hall was solved via a layered structure between the school rooms and an arrangement of internal courtyards. The superimposition of the school rooms over the gymnasium was made possible by a particular static solution.
