Natural stone cladding

On an almost flat plot, we designed a villa for the client and his family, with one of their main requests being ample natural light and a seamless connection between the ground floor and the outdoor amenities. The shape of the villa is conceived as a massive rectangular block, wrapped in a band made up of walls and slabs. This band forms an envelope around the villa's core, serving multiple functions: creating terraces, overhanging roof sections for protection against overheating and rainfall, and brise-soleils to shield from direct sunlight. Mike Edwards Architecture were commissioned for a full architectural service for this project. This two storey, 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home has generous sized rooms including a large upper floor retreat and terrace with views to Perth city skyline to the north. The north facing yard includes a retained existing swimming pool, lawn area and landscaping. A large modern open plan kitchen, living, dining area opens on to a covered patio. The second Drekka cafe and shop in Sofia opened in late 2020 in the middle of times of chaos and global pandemic. Situated in the historic center of the city, on a quiet street, it is a conversion of an old cigars shop lined with its heavy leather coverings and walnut wall panels. The design transforms the space into a bright and colorful street pocket that opens to the pedestrian traffic with its sliding folding facade system. The Drekka cyan is the focal point of a color palette full of bespoke details in pale pink (the shelving), marble (the community table) and cement (the counter). Esta gran casa residencial en la Bahía de Camps responde a la petición de dividir una gran casa familiar en 4 niveles, cada uno de los cuales cumple una función única según la demanda de los clientes. El diseño consiste en una combinación de elementos verticales y horizontales con dos techos "flotantes" encima. El principal elemento vertical es la pared de baldosas, que crea una zona de amortiguación contra el viento predominante del sureste, así como la privacidad del vecino de al lado. El proyecto se ejecutó en un extenso terreno lleno de viejos olivos cerca de la pequeña ciudad de Arco, que no está lejos de la orilla norte del Lago de Garda. Toda la región es mundialmente famosa por su microclima mediterráneo y el excelente aceite de oliva que se produce aquí.   Por lo tanto, no es de sorprender que la idea inicial del propietario fuera construir su propia prensa de aceite - "frantoio" en italiano - en medio del olivar.
