After a comprehensive renovation of the LA Beverly Center by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas in 2018, David Adjaye attaches a pink flagship store for the Webster to the monolithic eight story structure. Reminishinct of the crimson hued Ruby City museum, David Adjaye opts another time for a striking pigmented concrete materialization.

David Adjaye explains: “Pink felt like fashion, but I wanted to make something that was tough and gentle at the same time.”

The cantilevered concrete facade refers to the brutalist shell of the original building. Inside the storefront arcade the visitor is welcomed by a panoramic window made up out of three curved glass sheets. The window is an intent to blur the boundaries between the public arcade and retail interior.

David Adjaye continues the sculptural shape and pink concrete materialization into the shop interior. The interior materialization is dominated by varying textures and types of concrete. The architect alternates cast in place concrete columns, concrete floor and concrete teardrop shaped display plinths with bronze framed mirrors and display racks. The floor holds fragments of black cherry marble.

The arcade adds a small public space to the Beverly Hills streetscape that includes a sculptural water fountain and a digital art wall. The low res art wall, only 1472 by 20 pixels will feature bespoke art pieces commissioned by The Webster.
