IwamotoScott Architecture

IwamotoScott Architecture is an award winning architecture and design firm established by Lisa Iwamoto and Craig Scott. Based in San Francisco, California, the firm has gained national and international recognition for innovative design with projects around the country and overseas. Committed to pursuing architecture as a form of applied design research, IwamotoScott proceeds from the belief that each project can achieve a unique design synthesis. Our client list includes arts organizations, educational institutions, media firms, commercial developers, and private clients. Projects consist of work at all scales including urban design, buildings, interiors, full-scale fabrications, museum installations and exhibitions, and theoretical proposals.

The Founding Partners of IwamotoScott received the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt 2019 National Design Award and were honored as 2018 inductees into the Interior Design Hall of Fame. IwamotoScott were included in Curbed Groundbreakers in 2015; Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard 2011, CA Home + Design’s Ten to Watch 2011, and The Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices in 2007 and The League Prize (formerly Young Architects Forum) in 2002. Design awards for the work include over twenty AIA Design Awards at the local, state and national levels, several Architect's Newspaper Best Of Awards, multiple Architizer A+ Awards, three American Architecture Prizes, two Interior Design Best of Year Honors, multiple I.D. magazine Design Awards, several Wood Design Awards, P/A and R+D Awards from Architect magazine, Grand Prize in the History Channel City of the Future: SF 2108 Design Challenge, and Winner of World’s Coolest Office 2011 from Inc./Architizer for Obscura Digital HQ.

IwamotoScott’s work has been shown in over fifty exhibitions including the National Design Triennial at Smithsonian/Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Vitra Design Museum/Art Center College of Design, the Guggenheim Museum, MoMA/PS1, Southern California Institute of Architecture, Artists Space Gallery, and the work is represented in the permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. IwamotoScott’s work has been included in over one hundred fifty books, journals and newspapers. Iwamoto and Scott have lectured on the work of the firm at over seventy five professional, academic, and arts institutions worldwide.

Lisa Iwamoto was appointed Chair of the Department of Architecture at University of California Berkeley's College of Environmental Design in 2021, after teaching on the faculty for twenty years. Craig Scott is Professor of Architecture at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. IwamotoScott's founding partners have previsouly taught at University of Michigan, Harvard University, Yale University, SCIArc, Cornell University, Syracuse University and Sydney University.
