Chester-Block Hocker

The design and materialisation of the Chester-Block-Hocker is inspired by the classical Chesterfield furniture; it will pleasantly surprise you. The designers transformed the characteristics of the leather seating of the Chesterfield couch into beech wooden blocks and integrated a bouncing surface by applying springs inside the construction of the hocker. This gives the design a soft touch and surprising material experience. The blocks were CNC milled and sanded by hand, whereas the legs are upholstered with leather making the transformation complete. With utmost precision and attention to detail, this bench was made and intrigues every time when you take a seat. It offers a soft feel composed with tough materials. The design is a result of modern technology mixed with manual labor and craftsmanship. This couch is design with a smile, but also nostalgia with a wink, and therefore one of the rightful winners of the Baars & Bloemhoff “Master of Materials” prize.
