Casa Levene by NO.MAD

Casa Levene, one of the most famous spanish design houses of the past decade is a project of the architect Eduardo Arroyo from the NO MAD Studio in Madrid. The house was custom made for another architect, Richard Levene, the director of the El Croquis Magazine. The building of the 400.0 sqm house was completed in 2006. Original plans had to be adapted to the urbanistic requirements of the council of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, it's hometown.

Casa Levene is located at the outskirts of the village, in Monte Abranto, surrounded by an ancient pine tree forest. The architect perfectly resolved the challenge of a functional family house, integrated with the environement. Shaped by the pine forest, it offers a wide view on the natural surroundings from every room, including the swimming pool. The non-cartesian geometry and the mongolian basalt facade became of the symbols in spanish modern architecture. In 2006 it was part of the exhibition “On-Site: New Architecture in Spain” organized at MOMA. In 2007 it received the first price International Aluminair. In 2008 the Brit Museum of Design selected selected the house for the “Best architectural design” prize. In 2009
