As part of the continuing modernization at William P. Hobby International Airport, Southwest Airlines (Southwest) seized the opportunity to develop a new, expanded aircraft maintenance center at one of their largest hubs. Ghafari provided comprehensive architecture and engineering design services for the new facility - the largest in Southwest's network - which strengthens the airline's growing operations and supports their future fleet.
Our team designed an open-bay hangar and support center with flexible space capable of servicing multiple aircraft, including all advanced variants of Airbus and Boeing. The new hangar can house up to six 737 aircraft with room for an additional eight outside. The site also includes over 500,000 SF of taxi lane and aircraft apron paving as well as an aircraft wash building and a fire pump house.
The philosophy toward tihs aircraft MRO facility can simply be described as a center of excellence for fleet service and reliability. The goal was to provide the most value-driven work space to promote quality, productivity, and safety in aircraft maintenance.
