Hermanas is a family of wooden candleholders. They are like five sisters ready to help create a cozy atmosphere. Each candleholder has a unique height, so that combining them together they simulate the lighting effect of different size candles by simply using standard tealights. The idea behind this set of candleholders was to use a combination of simple shapes that could transmit a feeling of movement enhancing the unicity of each piece, but always blending them together with harmony. This has been achieved also by painting only one half of each candleholder, creating a very elegant contrast between the painted surface and the natural wood, and allowing to create a personal combination to fit in everyone's favorite place. Also the choice of a round shape, that could be made using a traditional process that requires a skillful knowledge of the technique by the turner who individually shapes each piece by hand, contributes to the unicity of the design. Each candleholder is turned from a block of solid beech and finely sanded in order to achieve a smooth and pleasing finish for the eye as well as for the touch. A hole is then bored on top of the piece to accommodate the tealight candle. They are then hand painted in our workshop with several coats of water based enamel in different colors.
Hermanas has been awarded with a Silver A` Design Award 2013 in Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Category.
