Embodied carbon

Low Carbon

Reusing the existing metal structure minimised the need for new materials and reduced embodied carbon. The new building envelope combines glazed terracotta, polycarbonate, and perforated corrugated metal, significantly reducing its environmental footprint.

EovaStudio specified a Baguette Oval glazed terracotta facade (160x50x1200mm) in White Formentera from Tempio for the Pabellón Ferrobús project. Tempio is renowned for its expertise in producing ceramic ventilated facade systems.

Tempio’s baguettes are manufactured using 50 percent recycled materials. The company reincorporates 100 percent of the water used in production and recovers all discarded materials, ensuring that nothing is wasted. Through a committed process of reusing, reducing, and recycling, Tempio maintains a zero-waste manufacturing model.

The reuse of the existing pavilion structure, a low-waste terracotta facade, and prefabricated assembly minimises embodied carbon.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

The facade’s semi‑open ceramic slats reduce the need for artificial lighting and enhance natural ventilation. The durable structure provides solar protection, is resistant to wear and tear, and is waterproof. The glazed ceramics and the polycarbonate panels add thermal efficiency.

The glazed facade system is designed for simplicity in assembly, which fits prefabrication strategies and speeds up construction, reducing on-site waste. Individual sections can be easily replaced.
