Embodied carbon

Efficient

Above ground, a structural timber construction features superior insulation and a ventilated facade.

The project uses half-timbered beech beams, which span approximately 45 metres without the need for intermediate supports.

The use of wood makes a significant difference in terms of comfort and well-being for the building’s users.

External walls

  • Cross-laminated timber (CLT) walls with cellulose insulation.
  • U-value: 0.16 W/m2k.

External cladding

  • Custom-made larch facade with black glaze finish.
  • Domestic larch, rift and half rift, 20 mm, fine bandsaw cut, tongue-and-groove joint, with 1 cm shadow gap; 3 cover widths (60, 100, 140).
  • Larch wood with a wood glaze from LIGNOVIT in Puma ST05/5 and Platinum Onyx Black.

Interior panelling

  • Custom-made 3-S panels in natural spruce wood.

Windows

  • Larch frames with black glaze finish on the outside.

Roof

  • Rafter roof with mineral wool insulation.
  • The double standing seam roof surface uses a UGINOX Patina K41 tin-coated stainless steel.
  • U-value: 0.16 W/m2k.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient
  • PVC is not used for windows, doors, and interior finishes.
  • A heat pump and rooftop photovoltaic system contribute to the energy efficiency and sustainable use of the building.
