Operational Emissions / Energy
There are no fossil fuels used anywhere in the building, heating and cooling are driven by heat pumps, a rooftop photovoltaic installation feeds electrical systems. There are all-electric installations throughout, building management system monitoring energy consumption per individual module, high insulation levels and maximised natural daylighting to reduce demand for artificial lighting.

Afterlife
The structural system uses flat, two-way load-bearing concrete floors with large column-free spans, designed to allow maximum flexibility in layout. The laboratory modules can be connected and separated easily, and the daylight gradient planning means the floorplate could plausibly accommodate other office or research uses without major structural intervention.
