Embodied carbon

Efficient

The stadium incorporates uses 1,600 m³ of locally sourced Chilean radiata pine glulam, which captures over 1,500 tonnes of carbon. Recycled steel and concrete from the original stadium were reused in construction.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

The new stadium is powered by 436 roof-mounted solar panels and supplemented with 100% renewable energy. Water-saving strategies include greywater reuse and replacing natural grass with synthetic turf, reducing water consumption by up to 70%. Façade design with angled slats provides shading and natural ventilation to reduce heating and cooling demands.

Service and maintenance emissions

Efficient

Reusing materials from the original stadium and using durable wood and synthetic turf reduces the need for frequent replacement and maintenance.

Afterlife

The project adapted and expanded the existing stadium rather than demolishing it, retaining the original structure and integrating flexible multipurpose spaces for future uses beyond football matches.
