Embodied carbon

Embodied carbon overview

  • The team selected TEKKō™ steel for the exterior cladding. The steel-zinc composite is highly corrosion-resistant and suited to the alpine climate.
  • The fully-adhered PVC membrane roof incorporates polyiso rigid insulation above the deck and blown-in insulation below. Wall construction includes 2 inches of continuous exterior rock-wall insulation and 2 inches of spray foam, with R-13 batt insulation within the wall assembly.

Operational emissions overview

  • Due to its remote location, the home operates entirely on propane and is heated by high-efficiency radiant heating throughout.
  • Building orientation and the positioning of high-performance glazing contribute to the performance of the building envelope. Strategically placed minimal glazing with a minimum U-factor of 0.32 supports overall envelope performance. Marvin windows and multi-slide doors were specified.
  • The roof assembly achieves an R-70 and the walls are insulated to R-38. The roof is finished in white PVC with a Solar Reflectance Index of 111.
  • Operable windows are positioned at key locations to take advantage of natural site ventilation, reducing reliance on mechanical heating and cooling and supporting indoor air quality. Southern facades incorporate overhangs and interior temperatures are moderated through these openings to provide cooling when required.
  • Two Tesla Powerwalls are installed to provide backup power in the event of an outage and the home includes a dedicated electric vehicle charging station.
