Afterlife

Limbo Engawa is conceived as a modular, lightweight system that can be disassembled, relocated, and reconfigured across different sites and programs. Rather than a fixed installation, it operates as a flexible spatial infrastructure that can adapt to varying contexts—serving as seating, shading, screening, or exhibition support depending on need. Its afterlife is therefore not a single endpoint, but an ongoing process of reuse and reinterpretation.

The installation is designed for full disassembly. Steel frame components are bolted rather than permanently fixed, allowing them to be taken apart, transported, and reassembled without material loss. The woven elements—made from salvaged billboard material—can be removed, repaired, or rewoven as needed. This approach enables components to re-enter the project cycle or be repurposed in new configurations, supporting a circular material logic rather than a one-time use.
